Jose Ramirez will meet former lightweight world champion Richard “RC” Commey in the 12-round junior welterweight main event Saturday, March 25, at Save Mart Center in Fresno, California.
Jose Ramirez who first decided not to fight Jose Zepeda for the vacant WBC junior welterweight belt which Josh Taylor dropped, to prioritize his long awaited wedding arrangement he had planned with and for his wife. By skipping the championship opportunity, gave a well deserving ex world champion Regis Prograis an opportunity to become Champion again. Regis Prograis took full advantage of the opportunity by stopping Jose Zepeda to become Wbc junior welterweight champion again.
WBC gave Jose Ramirez the privilege to still keep him in mandatory position to face the newly champion Prograis but for the 2nd time Jose Ramirez decided to skip on that opportunity yet this time it was purse issues. Regis Prograis was due 65% and Ramirez 35%. Basically Ramirez and his team felt that was beneath them. So not only did Ramirez snubbed the opportunity to become champion once but twice.
Ramirez will face hard hitting former lightweight champion Richard Commey who had a draw in his last outing vs Jose Pedraza in March 25th. Richard Commey has looked very vulnerable of late and Comey style is tailor made for Ramirez offense pedigree. This fight will not go the whole 12. TRUST.
