Terence Crawford a 3 division world champion which also captured the Junior welterweight Undisputed and currently WBO welterweight champion and arguably the number 1 pound 4 pound fighter in boxing, finally getting the opportunity to enhance his legacy and quiet the critics by stepping in the ring with a live elite welterweight, 2 time world champion Shawn Showtime Porter on November 20th PPV event hosted by ESPN.
Crawford may come on as favorite and might have the more hardware, yet Porter’s resume is probably the best in boxing. Experience wise, in terms of the level competition and looks Porter seen. Crawford ain’t seen nor experience the competition Porter has faced and especially facing those competition in their prime. Even with several of those defeats which he came up short in yet many feel he should of gotten the nod. Porter maybe more prepared for Crawford than Crawford is for Porter.
The unfortunate critique towards Crawford has been the lack of competition at welterweight. No one could ever question Porter with “lack of competition nor lack of performance.” Shawn Porter has the habit of humbling the welterweight division. Let’s reflect a bit on Porter last opponents. Errol Spence currently unified welterweight champ which he lost a split decision to. A win over 2 division world champion Danny Garcia which many could argue has a better Junior welterweight resume than Crawford. Keith Thurman former unified welterweight champ which many felt that fight could have gone either way. Yordenis Ugas who just finish beating Manny Pacquiao which Porter victorious over Ugas definitely aged well. Porter also has defeated Devin Alexander to win his first world title but then lost it to Kell Brook. Yeh Crawford beat Brook in his last outing but many believe at this point Kell Brook was a shell of himself. Porter briefly has beaten Adrien Broner, Andre Berto, Paulie Malignggi etc.
Shawn Porter effective pressure and aggression which only compares to the Great Mike Tyson. A pressure and a pace which none of Crawford’s past opponent specialized on. Now let’s not get it twisted. Crawford is the master of timely adjustments and arguably got the tools to neutralize any style including Shawn Porter. Is no question Porter will push Bud Crawford to the limit and take him to a place only greats could come out from. Just ask Spence & Thurman. Porter will bring out the dog out of you and if you have the bark, you would have to bite down like you never did before, Because Porter is the type of opponent that takes a lot of boxing life out of you once is all set and done, win, lose or draw, you will question, do you want to keep on doing this line of work. Yet like Mike Tyson said once, this sport is not a Tough man contest. The smartest man is the best fighter. Is a thinking man’s game. Crawford arguably has the best iq in boxing.
