Matchroom boxing promoter Eddie Hearn in recent interview with the THA BOXING VOICE discuss the status of Their partnership with Devin Haney & Devin Haney Promotions. Hearn has revealed that Devin Haney has not re-signed with DAZN and is staying a network free agent for now so there are “no excuses” to prevent fights with Teofimo Lopez and Gervonta Davis. Hearn said he and Haney will still work together.
I suppose Devin Haney is comfortable remaining not handcuffed to a network or stream service. Yet as a Boss it seems strange to me Devin Haney is referred as a Free agent, I mean do they call Micheal Jordan a free agent or the Charlotte Hornets owner? Is Jerry Jones owner of the Dallas Cowboys a free agent. How bout this, once Oscar de la Hoya and Floyd Mayweather established their promotional company, they no longer were referred as Free Agents because they had established themselves as Bosses in this industry.
Devin Haney & Eddie Hearn were Partners and as Eddie Hearn stated in the interview they will remain having a working relationship. Devin Haney is the youngest multi-millionaire Boss in the sport of boxing and should be respected as one. There are boxing personnel and fans insinuating, questioning or predicting where should Devin Haney sign under. Whether is Top Rank, Pbc Al Haymon, Golden Boy, Matchroom etc yet the real question should be, who is willing to PARTNER up with Devin Haney?
Devin Haney holds the wbc lightweight belt and in well position to negotiate a mega fight with the likes of Gervonta Davis, Teofimo Lopez, Ryan Garcia, Vasyl Lomachenko. Does DHP have the Strength without the Muscle of Matchroom to financially facilitate a huge fight with one of those potential opponents. I highly doubt only because DHP is still a young company and have not generated the net worth like a Canelo promotion which is a young company with net worth behind yet still need the partnership of Matchroom. One thing for sure is Eddie Hearn have so much respect for fighters like Devin Haney, Canelo, Anthony Joshua etc to establish a partnership rather than you being UNDER him.
Devin Haney is molded by Father Bill Haney as Nothing less than a Boss and a Boss he will remain.
