But both quite frankly, are unknown in the North American market and Canelo already beat a l75 pounder and champion, when he defeated Sergey Kovalev. Whats left to truly prove? He’s already a walking HOF.
Sort of like when Roy Jones Jr capture the heavyweight title when he defeated John Ruiz. What was left to prove for Roy Jones Jr? Absolutely nothing. 4 division world champion, fighter of the decade. Roy was just ahead of his time.
Boxing is not a sport that you want to overstay your welcome. Sure Canelo can fight a Phenom like David Benavidez yet what will he truly gain by fighting him? Canelo in the next fight is due a heavy payday and already Canelo has invested his money very well. It would be ideal to retire at the top, young with all your faculties, Than stay and catch unnecessary L’s and chip away from your legacy the way Roy Jones jr did. No potential opponent doesn’t even have half the star power or notoriety nor accomplishments of Canelo.
It wouldn’t be surprising if Canelo retires if he Defeats Caleb Plant and fans shouldn’t feel frustrated if he decides to do so.
