“I’M HURT.” Teofimo On Eddy Reynoso Deciding Not To Train Him.

2x Time boxing trainer of the year recipient, Eddie Reynoso is not training the 2x Lineal Champion Teofimo Lopez for his upcoming fight due to scheduling conflicts and his commitments to other fighters.

Specifically, Reynoso has chosen to prioritize training Canelo Alvarez and Jaime Munguia for their fights scheduled on May 3, 2025, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Lopez’s fight against Arnold Barboza Jr. is set for May 2, 2025, in New York, just one day earlier. Reynoso has stated that he needs a full 10-week training camp to prepare his fighters properly and plans to travel to Riyadh three weeks before the May 3 event to help Alvarez and Munguia acclimate to the time zone. This timeline overlaps with Lopez’s preparation, making it impossible for Reynoso to dedicate sufficient time to him.

Reynoso explained that he prefers to focus 100 percent on his boxers and finds it unprofessional to split his attention across conflicting schedules. With additional fighters like Marco Verde and Brayan Leon also under his guidance for the May 3 card, his capacity is stretched thin.

As a result, Lopez will now train with his father, Teofimo Lopez Sr., and longtime coach Milton Lacroix in South Florida instead of joining Reynoso’s camp in Truckee, California. Lopez has expressed disappointment over this decision, feeling it reflects a lack of priority from Reynoso’s team, though he acknowledges it may not be the end of their working relationship. “I’m not going to lie, I’m hurt.” Teofimo Spoke in depth  on his overall feelings when he first heard the news that he would not be trained by Reynoso, with Punsh Drunk Boxing YouTube Channel.
