Kambosos Jr looks to Show He’s More Than A “1 HIT WONDER” As He Goes Up Against Maxi Hughes July 22nd.

SHAWNEE, OK (May 30, 2023) – A former Emperor and an emerging prodigy will look to seize the spotlight as part of an action-packed lightweight doubleheader in one of the sport’s most competitive divisions.

Former lineal lightweight world champion George Kambosos Jr. makes his Top Rank debut in a 12-round IBF world title eliminator against English southpaw Maxi Hughes on Saturday, July 22, at FireLake Arena in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

After being awarded a split decision shocking victory against former lightweight King Teofimo Lopez, George Kambosos Jr went right back into the fire to defend his titles against a top lightweight in Devin Haney and lost back to back one sided fights.

Soon after Kambosos’s victory against Lopez, The Boxing world was notified that Lopez was not fit to fight Kambosos due to health complications Certified by NYC doctors. Unfortunately Kambosos edge a victory over a “less than half” Lopez. Not given the lightweight Top Dog recognition that a victory over Teofimo at the time deserved. Many identify the victory as a “Buster Douglas” moment.

A “one hit wonder” maybe a tag Kambosos wants to dust off July 22nd.

In the 10-round co-feature, U.S. Olympic silver medalist Keyshawn Davis takes a step up in class against Belgian contender and former European champion Francesco Patera

Kambosos-Hughes and Davis-Patera will be broadcast live on ESPN, ESPN Deportes and ESPN+ at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT.
